How to Listen to Alexa Flash Briefings on Your iPhone

So you just found Alexa Flash Briefings and you want to listen to them on your iPhone without having to purchase an Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Spot or Echo Show. I don't blame you!

Alexa Flash Briefings are the new way to consume not just weather reports and news, but also your favorite podcast and educational or inspirational content! Here's how to set it up so you can listen on your iPhone.

How to Listen to Alexa Flash Briefings on Your iPhone

1. Add skills to your Flash Briefing line up on desktop or mobile

For desktop, go to Amazon.com and click on the Alexa Skills in the dropdown at the left of the search bar. For this example, we know the name of the Skill we're looking for, but you can search title, author/producer or general terms such as podcast, Myrtle Beach, or news, for example. We searched for “Cafe con Katie”

 

2. Click the title and open and then click the “enable” button.

This can also be done by adding the Alexa app to your iPhone.

1. Open the Alexa app 
2. Click the bars on the top left to open the menu options, and choose “skills”
3. Search for and enable your skills.

But this is where it gets tricky. I'm not sure why the Alexa app doesn't let you listen to, only manage your skills, but here it how to listen to the skills you've set up.

3. Open the Amazon App on your iPhone

This is different from the Alexa App. You want to open the Amazon SHOPPING app

1. Tap the white circle Alexa symbol at the top-right (on Android it may look like a Microphone symbol)
2. Enable your microphone
3. Speak the command “Alexa, play my flash briefing.”

Note: It doesn't have always-listening, just push-to-talk.

You can use the advance or reverse buttons to move ahead or go back and relisten to something or pause to stop.

Your flash briefings will play down through the list of latest episodes from each skill on your list.

I enjoy listening to this quick run down of info as I am getting ready in the mornings. Each Flash Briefing is generally 90 seconds to 3 minutes long, but never more than 10 minutes.
